If Shopify POS is experiencing downtime, you can still accept card payments. Your Stitch terminal works independently of Shopify - you just switch to the standalone flow.
During the outage
- Use the terminal in standalone mode: enter the payment amount manually on the terminal.
- Process the card payment as normal - it will go through Stitch and the customer will be charged.
- Keep a note of the payment amount and what the customer purchased (or take a photo of the sale).
After Shopify comes back
- Create a manual order in Shopify for each payment you took during the outage.
- Find the payment ID on your Stitch dashboard at express.stitch.money.
- Associate the Stitch payment ID with the manually created Shopify order for your records.
Important: Payments taken during a Shopify outage are fully processed and will settle as normal. The only thing you’ll miss is the automatic Shopify order creation - which you can do manually once Shopify is back online.
